Shri Thanedar Statement on State of the State Address
Today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Shri Thanedar made the following comments in response to Gov. Rick Snyder’s 2018 State of the State address:
“While Governor Snyder took plenty of credit for the economic recovery since the great recession of 2010, it’s hard for most Michiganders to see any real positive benefit from Snyder’s millions of dollars of corporate tax giveaways. While the rich have gotten richer, the quality of life and financial conditions of working families have hardly improved. Too many families are struggling to make ends meet.
“Meanwhile, the quality of our state’s education system continues to decline. There is not enough investment in education, nor is there in our state’s infrastructure. The people of Flint have been ignored by the state with no concern for the adverse long-term health effects of lead poisoning, and there is still no clear plan to replace lead pipes throughout our state. Governor Snyder has allowed the state’s policies to drift way too far to the right and has failed time and again to stand up to conservative lawmakers.
“Our campaign is about making Michigan a more progressive and inclusive state, with an economy that works for everyone.”
